Here Are 3 Movies And 1 Show You Should Watch This Weekend, Plus More TV And Movie News

This week in TV and movie news, "Project Hail Mary" dropped a final trailer, why "Wuthering Heights" is worth seeing this weekend, two Catherine O'Hara movies to watch in her honor, and more. Streaming on Apple TV; new episodes every Wednesday Shrinking is one of my favorite shows that I think not a lot of people are watching. It’s so good, and I genuinely think Harrison Ford has been robbed of an Emmy Award for the last two seasons now. Created by Bill Lawrence, Jason Segel, and Brett Goldstein, Shrinking follows Jimmy (Segel), a therapist who is dealing with his grief after the sudden death of his wife. The show explores how Jimmy and his daughter, Alice (Lukita Maxwell), navigate the stages of grief with the help of their friends. It is such a heartwarming, honest, and funny show. As someone who is dealing with grief after the recent death of my mom, this show has been such a source of solace for me. It’s not afraid to say the quiet parts out loud and bring humor to a situation that not many people want to talk about. Segel is such a great leader of this all-star ensemble, with Ford, Maxwell, Jessica Williams, Michael Urie, Luke Tennie, Christa Miller, and Ted McGinley rounding it out. It’s rare that every episode of a show can be equal parts laugh-out-loud funny and genuinely wholesome, but Shrinking balances it all flawlessly. I cannot recommend it enough. Wuthering Heights hits theaters this weekend, and I think it’s safe to say it’s one of the most highly anticipated movies of the year. Starring Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi as Catherine and Heathcliff, Emerald Fennell brings her own spin to this classic by Emily Brontë. Wuthering Heights follows two landowning families living on the West Yorkshire moors, the Earnshaws and the Lintons. When Mr. Earnshaw brings home an orphaned boy named Heathcliff, his daughter, Catherine, develops a close bond with him. And while they feel destined to be together, the world and their families have other plans. From the trailers alone, the movie looks visually stunning, and I know I will be obsessed with the costumes and music, too. While discourse has been going on for months criticizing Elordi's casting as Heathcliff and, overall, what Fennell brings to this adaptation, I think it’s safe to assume it will do big box-office numbers. I am a sucker for a book adaptation, so I just finished the audiobook of Wuthering Heights (highly recommend it because Aimee Lou Wood reads the Penguin Classic version), so I can be prepared for all my feelings about this movie. At the end of the day, I do love Robbie. I have liked Fennell’s previous work. So, I have no doubt, I am probably the target audience for this. Both are streaming now on Netflix or available for purchase on Prime Video Since Catherine O’Hara’s death, I feel like everyone has been wanting to bask in her hilarious glory by watching (or rewatching) her best roles. So, it feels only right to alert you that Netflix has started streaming a bunch of Christopher Guest and Eugene Levy movies that star O’Hara. If you’re unfamiliar, this group of movies often featured the same actors, like O’Hara, Levy, Guest, Parker Posey, Fred Willard, Jennifer Coolidge, Jane Lynch, and more, with many of the moments improvised by the comedians. So, if you’re like me and want to watch some of O’Hara’s best work, I recommend Best in Show (2000) and Waiting for Guffman (1996). I just watched both of them for the first time. Best in Show follows entrants in a prestigious dog show who travel to compete at a show in Philadelphia. Then, Waiting for Guffman follows a group in Missouri as they put on a community theater production about their town. Both are absolutely hysterical. There are so many moments that have become iconic in each of them, and as someone who had never seen them until a few weeks ago, both of these hold up. I think a lot of people have mentioned this, but I really need Simone Ashley and Manny Jacinto in a rom-com together. I think it would break the internet in the best way possible. Or I am obsessed with the Beach Read by Emily Henry fancasting of Paul Mescal and Ayo Edebiri as Gus and January. It would be incredible. I probably wouldn’t be able to handle it and would be on the floor of a movie theater, but man, what a way to go. Also, I firmly believe that we need to get back to what Nora Ephron did so well with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan: using the same actors in multiple movies because they had such good chemistry. I think we are wasting some really great pairings by not also putting them in a rom-com. So, in that vein, I think we cannot let Sam Heughan and Caitríona Balfe’s amazing chemistry slip away after Outlander ends this year. Someone put them in a modern-day rom-com, please and thank you. Also, Kathryn Hahn and Aubrey Plaza. They were the heart of Agatha All Along, and I have simply been thinking about their chemistry every day for years now.
