Thomas Massie Calls Out Pam Bondi's Performance During Epstein Files Hearing

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) criticized Attorney General Pam Bondi and her handling of the Jeffrey Epstein files, calling out her behavior during the House Judiciary Committee hearing. “I don’t think Pam Bondi has confidence in Pam Bondi,” Massie said Sunday on ABC’s “This Week.” “She wasn’t confident enough to engage in anything but name calling in a hearing. And so, no, I don’t have confidence in her. She hasn’t got any sort of accountability there at the DOJ.” During Wednesday’s hearing that questioned Bondi over the handling of the files related to the late sex offender, Bondi largely responded to questioning with shouting, sarcasm and name calling. During one exchange, Bondi called Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) a “washed-up, loser lawyer” after he told her not to filibuster. But Bondi’s exchange — or rather avoidance — of several of Epstein’s victims had Massie calling Bondi “cold.” Several of Epstein’s victims were present at the hearing, and when Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) asked them to stand and raise their hands if they had tried to meet with Justice Department officials, all of them stood. Jayapal asked Bondi to apologize, but Bondi refused. “I’m not going to get in the gutter for her theatrics,” Bondi responded. Massie called out Bondi for refusing to acknowledge the victims. “I think that was kind of cold on her part,” Massie said on “This Week.” “I think she was afraid to. And look, these survivors would love to have a meeting. It’s not about Bill Clinton and it’s not about Donald Trump, this Epstein Files Transparency Act was about getting these survivors justice. We’ve got some degree of transparency, but it’s called the Department of Justice, not the department of transparency.” Bondi was called out for the Justice Department redacting several high profile people’s names from the Epstein files, including Leslie Wexner, the former CEO of Victoria’s Secret, who was listed in the files as a “child sex trafficking co-conspirator.” Massie asked Bondi who was responsible for the redaction. Bondi said his name was added back in within 40 minutes of the release of the files. When Massie said it was added back because he caught her “red-handed,” Bondi said he had “Trump derangement syndrome” and called him a “failed politician.” “When I asked her specifically who redacted Leslie Wexner’s name from the one document that mattered, she couldn’t give me an answer, she wouldn’t give me an answer,” Massie said. “But ultimately, it’s her who is responsible for the document production according to our law, the attorney general. It’s not [Deputy Attorney General] Todd Blanche. It’s not the people below them. You can assign tasks to people, but you can’t assign your responsibility.” By entering your email and clicking Sign Up, you're agreeing to let us send you customized marketing messages about us and our advertising partners.
