Flavor Flav made a big pitch to the U.S. women’s hockey team on Monday after the Olympic gold medalists turned down an invite from President Donald Trump, who is facing criticism for joking that he’d “have to” include them on plans for the men’s squad to visit the nation’s capital. The team accepted his offer to party with him in Las Vegas, the rapper later commented on a social media post. Earlier, the Public Enemy rapper and Team USA hype man took to social media to address the winning women, writing, “If the USA Women’s Hockey team wants a real celebration and invite ,,, I’ll host them in Las Vegas.” He continued, “Do some nice dinners and shows and good times. I’m sure I can get a hotel and airline to help me out here and celebrate these women for real for real. 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾.” Flav’s pitch arrived after Trump made controversial comments during a congratulatory phone call with the gold medal-winning U.S. men’s hockey team, where he offered to fly the athletes to his State of the Union address on Tuesday in a trip that would include a White House visit the next day. “And we have to — I must tell you — we’re going to have to bring the women’s team,” said Trump, whose comment drew laughter from the American men. “[If I don’t] do that, I do believe I probably would be impeached, OK?” A spokesperson for USA Hockey, which oversees both teams, later shared that the White House invited the American women to attend the SOTU address but the players ultimately declined the offer, citing scheduling conflicts. GOP leadership has shared that it’s working out the logistics to get members of the men’s team to D.C. in time for the address. It’s unclear whether members of either hockey team will attend Trump’s proposed White House visit set for Wednesday. The president previously honored the American women when they took gold at the 2018 PyeongChang Games, although that White House ceremony was composed of Olympic and Paralympic athletes from various sports. Flav — a fixture at the 2024 Paris Games when he signed on as a sponsor and hype man for the U.S. women’s water polo team — repped the red, white and blue out in Italy this month as he cheered on Team USA bobsled and skeleton. On Monday, Flav wrote that he intends to loop the bobsled and skeleton into his big celebration in Vegas. He later shared a screenshot of a party pitch seemingly sent on his behalf to Doug Ferry, hockey operations and event manager for the U.S. women’s team. Flav noted on his Instagram stories that he’s eyeing to host the celebration at the end of Professional Women’s Hockey League action. The 2025-26 PWHL season resumes Thursday, and the playoffs typically conclude in late May. HuffPost has reached out to USA Hockey for comment.
