Jesse Watters Mocked Over 1 Backfired Dig At Newsom: 'Who's Gonna Tell Him?'

Fox News host Jesse Watters on Monday crassly opposed Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.) potentially running for president, sharing one particular gripe that utterly backfired — and left critics on social media wondering if this was some sort of “comedy routine.” Watters and his co-hosts on “The Five” were discussing Newsom’s tour stop Sunday in Atlanta to promote his new memoir, “Young Man in a Hurry,” where he told the crowd that he’s “no better” than them, scored poorly on his SATs and “cannot read a speech.” “I don’t want a president who scores poorly,” Watters said Monday. “I don’t want a president who struggles to read. I want a really smart president. Now, Gavin says he had dyslexia and he’s overcome his dyslexia, and he’s become governor and he should be proud of that.” He continued, “That’s great, a great accomplishment, but he was a terrible governor.” Newsom noted Sunday that he hasn’t “overcome” his dyslexia, but is simply “living with it.” Dyslexia is a lifelong neurodevelopmental condition that affects the ability to read, write and spell, but can be managed with various exercises, according to The Cleveland Clinic. Some critics slammed Watters for patronizing Newsom and his “great accomplishment,” while others noted that the MAGA pundit regularly defends President Donald Trump — who has repeatedly failed to read or properly pronounce words on countless occasions. One user on X wrote: “Who’s gonna tell him?” “Well, you currently have one who struggles to think and never reads anything, so I’m not sure what your issue is,” wrote another, with a third person jokingly commented: “This is the first time I’ve heard Watters say anything negative about Trump…” Others shared clips from a recent speech in which Trump seemed to struggle with the word “undisputed,” pointed to his inability to properly pronounce “coronavirus” and highlighted Trump sharing baseless medical advice while wrestling with the word “acetaminophen.” MAGA voices have slammed Newsom as a “racist” over his self-deprecating remarks Sunday, leading him to fire back on social media at the “fake fucking outrage” — before publicly addressing Watters and his fear of having a president who “struggles to read.” “Jesse, you already have one,” Newsom wrote Monday on X.
