And if you’re thinking that a polisher sounds abrasive, you’re not entirely wrong. As we know, few skin care products have been quite as vilified as the humble physical exfoliant. The backlash endured by early-aughts staples like the St. Ives apricot scrub has been swift and severe. In previous reporting, Dr. Howard Sobel, a cosmetic dermatologist and surgeon in New York City, explained that scrubs with large particles (like St. Ives) should be avoided because they can cause irritation, redness, and flakiness from stripping the outer layer of skin. “It’s tempting to physically scrub our skin to get the fresh clean sensation, but most people tend to overdo it,” Dr. Jinmeng Zhang, a board-certified dermatologist at U.S. Dermatology Partners in Peoria, Arizona, previously told HuffPost. This exfoliation method usually isn’t gentle enough on your skin and can cause a host of problems. As a result, I have only used chemical exfoliants — products that use gentle acids to dissolve dead skin and impurities — for the better part of the last two decades. Despite this, I couldn’t resist the call of this wildly highly rated physical exfoliant from K-beauty giant Peach & Lily. I figured it would be the perfect way to keep my fussy skin in check during a month of arduous travel, when I am prone to dryness, breakouts and irritation. I continued using it every day throughout December, during which I traveled to Los Angeles, Sydney and back to New York again, all while wrangling a toddler and fighting off walking pneumonia, a sinus infection and ear infection. All of these challenges would normally cause my skin to go haywire, and yet somehow it remained bright and clear, even while the will to live slowly left my spirit. I will never go anywhere without it again. The secret is in the rice-based powder that works gently to polish the skin, removing dead cells and flakiness without creating microtears. The addition of allantoin and green tea helps to brighten and even out skin tone, while repairing and calming inflammation. Reviewer Annie T said, “Having purchased far more expensive polishers before this is by far the smoothest, least harsh one I’ve tried and it does the job well. I just love using it.” I wholeheartedly agree. “Purchased during Ulta’s annual 21-day sale. It’s one of my favorite new finds. Lathers easily and leaves my skin clean without feeling dry. I have extremely sensitive skin and struggle to find/try new products that work. I’ve been using this daily for over a month and my 45yo dry-to-combo skin takes it well without issue.” —Trish “I got a mini of this in a P&L kit and loved it so much I bought a full size, which will probably last me forever. Sometimes I need some physical exfoliating, but not too harsh and not too often ― this rice polish is perfect on my older thin skin. It’s very gentle yet I notice improvement. Just get it, or get the kit with the mini!” —Sue “Love it! As I am getting older my skin is changing and this face polisher gives my skin a clean fresh look and feel.” —Kelley “This stuff is amazing. My skin feels so good after using this. I can tell a big difference in the way my skin looks and feels. I like that I can use this daily with no irritation.” —Kelly Simmons “Mature skin’s new best friend. Ulta staff introduced this amazing product to me last week “Glass skin” is an understatement ! I was having issues with dry skin and caked on makeup easing to to my wrinkles (I’m 63) What I needed was exfoliating and this product did the trick without stripping natural oils from my mature skin It’s easy to use and is so gentle but incredibly effective smoothing the skin in preparation for foundation. I use it daily as it’s also beneficial to allow absorption of my everyday and evening moisturizer.” —maren “I really like this product. All you need to do is pour a small amount of it into you palm and add water. It feels gentle enough on my face not to irritate it but also feels like it smooths my skin and cleans it without stripping it dry.” —Katherine S. “I love using this whenever I feel my face or neck are a little rough. It makes me feel extra clean and soft.” —Haley B. “I have very sensitive skin and have struggled with acne since I was a teen (I’m 27). I also struggle with having really dry patches of skin and then some oily areas as well. This exfoliator hasn’t itritated my skin or caused any more acne to surface other than my isual breakouts. The reason why i live this product is because many exfoliators I’ve used have left my face feeling very dry and stripped of all my natural oils. It leaves my skin feeling slightly moisturized but not an excessive amount. I think this would be great for all skin types!” —K “I cannot say enough about this glass skin face polisher! I use this after the water gel cleanser about 4x/week and OMG is it amazing! Leaves my skin feeling SO smooth and polished looking and feeling SO clean!! I will never use any other exfoliating product again! The best!” —Lori M. “I’ve been using this every evening since last summer, and I think it’s really helped keep my pores clear! I have combination (oily/normal) sensitive dehydrated (not dry) skin that’s somewhat acne-prone (hormonally). Absolutely love this. A little bit goes a long way, so one bottle lasts me for 8-9 months.” —C.C. Reviews have been edited for length and/or clarity.
