President Donald Trump flaunted his evasion of Congress to wage war against Iran by telling Republicans why he avoids a certain term.

“I won’t use the word ‘war’ because they say if you use the word ‘war,’ that’s maybe not a good thing to do,” Trump said Wednesday at a GOP fundraising dinner. “They don’t like the word ‘war’ because you’re supposed to get approval. So, I’ll use the word ‘military operation,’ which is really what it is. It’s called a military decimation.”

Some viewers called his words a confession for pretty much saying he’s not supposed to be at war without approval and admitting that he’s dancing around that fact with semantics.

“He’s literally telling on himself,” one observer wrote on X.

“Openly admitting to breaking the law and no one will do anything,” another added.

This week, the Republican-majority Senate defeated a Democratic resolution on Wednesday to stop the nearly month-long offensive until the president gets the congressional OK.

Many Republicans say the administration has satisfied the mandate to consult with Congress on the war by holding several classified briefings with them, according to The New York Times.

Trump has previously used the word “war” to describe the U.S. actions, even if on Wednesday he said he would avoid it.

Here are other responses to his comments.

Trump just described the War Powers Resolution in real time and explained why he's working around it. The Constitution requires congressional authorization for war. The War Powers Resolution of 1973 requires the president to notify Congress within 48 hours of introducing forces…

This is a man publicly shitting on the constitution. The president, no less.

Skirting the law and the rules, as usual.

I don’t want to say the word that shows I broke the law again so I will lie and say different words, even tho I am committing war crimes

Trump’s so evil he believes he can start a costly war without obtaining Congressional approval or explaining his rationale to the American people by simply not saying the word “war” out loud. The war is illegal and every American death is more blood on Trump’s hands.
