Seth Meyers on Wednesday mocked President Donald Trump after he strangely compared the “discovery” of paper clips to efforts to send federal immigration agents to airports nationwide.

“Sir, what exactly the hell are you talking about?” asked the “Late Night” host, who declared that he doesn’t “speak concussion.”

Meyers reacted to a video of Trump telling the “story of the paper clip” earlier this week.

“Hundred and eighty-two years ago, a man discovered the paper clip. It was so simple. And everybody that looked at it said, ‘Why didn’t I think of that?’” the president said.

Trump used the tale to stress the brilliance of (what he claimed to be) his plan to send U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers to assist Transportation Security Administration agents in hopes of reducing wait times at airport security checkpoints, a move that reportedly has proven to be a dud.

Meyers called out the inaccuracy of the president’s story, “Of fucking course it wasn’t 182 years ago! He’s just pulling numbers out of his ass like an ICE agent doing a cavity search at the airport.”

The “Late Night” host found particular joy in one line from Trump’s tale: that a man “discovered the paper clip.”

“Nobody ‘discovered’ the paper clip. It was invented. Do you think Steve Jobs just found an iPod sticking out of the sand in the beach one day? He’s like, ‘Oh, look at this luck. I’ll have to — I’ll have to wear my lucky outfit the rest of my life,’” he joked.

Meyers later aired news clips on gas prices increasing to nearly $9 a gallon in Los Angeles, including one video where an expert didn’t rule out prices reaching up to $10 a gallon due to the Iran war.

“$10 a gallon? How am I supposed to afford that? I don’t got paper clip money,” he quipped.
