A man has been arrested after a three-month-old girl died in a suspected dog attack in Redcar, police said. Armed officers were sent to an address on Hardale Grove, in Dormanstown, shortly after 13:30 BST on Thursday over reports of concern for a child. Cleveland Police said officers destroyed a dog on the street and another at the property. The 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control and causing injury resulting in death. He has been released on conditional bail. Police said they believed the girl died as a result of a dog bite. A woman, 31, was bitten on the arm and received treatment at hospital. Both dogs were assessed by a specialist officer and were not believed to have been a banned breed. Flowers and a Winnie the Pooh cuddly toy have been left at the scene. Ch Supt Rachel Stockdale, head of local policing, said there will continue to be a police presence at the address while the investigation continues. "Our thoughts continue to be with the child's family following this tragic and distressing incident," she said. "I want to take this opportunity to request that their privacy is respected during this difficult time." The force asked anyone with information, including any footage, to come forward.
