Diplomat and one-time Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry savaged President Donald Trump’s war in Iran and the scandal around FBI Director Kash Patel’s alleged drinking habits in one cutting remark during a Tuesday night stop to “The Late Show.”

Weighing in on foreign affairs with host Stephen Colbert, Kerry scoffed at the fact that Trump was already heralding a yet-to-be-done peace deal as “FAR BETTER” than the 2015 nuclear agreement the former secretary of state helped negotiate under President Barack Obama.

The former senator argued that the president practically made war “inevitable” by pulling out of the previous deal because it left Iran “no freedom to move in a different direction,” while noting how access to the Strait of Hormuz was simply not a problem before the U.S. started dropping bombs.

“Are those the best ways to negotiate?” a faux-incredulous Colbert asked. “In other words, if you start, as I said before, if you start with an act of war, is that the best way to start a peace talk?”

“No, obviously not,” Kerry said. “No, I think what he’s doing now is challenging the validity of his FIFA World Peace Prize.”

“Don’t even joke about that,” scolded Colbert, who called the honor, which has only ever been awarded to Trump, “sacred.”

Kerry then managed to knock Trump and the head of his FBI in one swoop, saying “the bottom line” was the U.S. would be in the best shape “if neither Iran nor Kash Patel are getting bombed.”

Patel has been defending himself against accusations of heavy drinking and absentee leadership at the FBI, which were detailed in a heavily sourced story by The Atlantic published last week.

On Monday, Patel responded to the allegations by filing a typo-ridden $250 million lawsuit against the magazine and writer Sarah Fitzpatrick, citing defamation.
