With House of the Dragon season 3 coming out this Sunday (the 21st of June), we had the pleasure of sitting down with Matt Smith (Daemon Targaryen) and Emma D’Arcy (Rhaenyra Targaryen) to discuss the upcoming new chapter of the much-loved series.

There is much speculation and excitement about the long-await Battle of the Gullet, an epic battle that fans cannot wait for in the upcoming series, so we asked how it was to bring that to life:Matt: "On a pure film making sense, it was wonderful to see – they built a whole tank, and boat, and world and it's got great scale and ambition and I think it's going to be thrilling."Emma: "I do know from just looking at what they were trying to pull of out there, this is super unusual for television. They're doing this practically, on camera – people don't do that anymore. It's the privilage of being on a show this size, that you can take that risk."

Being one of TV's most complicated relationships, we asked the pair what their characters truly think of eachother heading into season 3:Matt: "Well, I think maybe I judge him through a more romantic lens than other people – I think that on some level he's deeply besotted with Ren, she's the only person in the world apart from his brother that he believes he can truly trust in a basic way. We find them on a more of a consolatory hymn footing this season – but there's always an edge with him, that he might just fall off a cliff and go mad, but ostensibly I think they're in a better place."Emma: "One thing that means there's an undeniable bond but also a friction between them, is that they're so incredibly similar. They are so 'of the same stuff', that sometimes they rub. But this also lends itself to an extraordinary intimate understanding of eachother, sometimes a non-verbal understanding. I think we do meet them in a state of relative union at the start of season 3."
